30lb in 30 days... Still Want In?

Wow!

I DEFINITELY wasn't expecting that!

Nearly 200 people have applied for one of the 18 places I have available on the 'Lose 30lbs In 30 Days Challenge' that's starting Monday and I have to pick them from some really, really great applications.

It's gonna be hard : )

In fact, it may be a little TOO hard.

So...

Instead of trying to 'sell' you all into getting onto the program I'm going to do something completely different.

I'm going to see if I can put you OFF!

You see, I reckon that the idea of 30lbs in 30 days sounds pretty cool to many of you and I'm sure that you'd love to see the end result in the mirror after a month of following my exercise, nutrition and lifestyle strategies but I wonder if you're ready, REALLY ready, to put forward the effort required to reach this amazing goal.

Let's see shall we?

==> Are you ready, willing and able to give up COMPLETELY all wheat, dairy, caffeine, alcohol, sugar and processed foods for the duration of the program?

==> Are you ready, willing and able to exercise 7 days a week for around 1 hour with no excuses about work, kids, 'feeling tired' or anything else?

==> Are you ready, willing and able to train HARD and put forth 100% effort in each of your workouts to bring about the best possible response to training?

==> Are you ready, willing and able to utilise safe nutritional methods like carb cycling, intermittent fasting and more to bring about a rapid reduction in fat and overall weight?

==> Are you ready, willing and able to follow lifestyle guidance regarding sleep patterns, stress reduction and hydration?

==> Are you ready, willing and able to COMPLETE the 30 day program with no excuses for dropping out?

If you answered yes to ALL of the above questions then go ahead and put your name in the box below and you'll be shortlisted and notified about my selection at midnight tonight.

If not, if you realise it's just not for you then hey, thanks for reading : )

You need to get a move on though, I've a lot of names to get through and not much time to do it so put your details in the box and we'll be ready to go!

Human Fat Loss Guinea Pigs Wanted! Lose 30lbs In 30 Days

Yeah, I know the term 'guinea-pig' isn't too flattering but hey, you know what I mean, right?

Here's the deal!

I'm just putting the finishing touches on a special new fat loss program that I've been working hard behind the scenes to create for a while now.

The program is aimed at RAPID fat loss and will involve 30 days of intensive exercise, nutrition and lifestyle coaching where I'll be taking my chosen subjects through step-by-step 'how to' processes that will literally convert them into fat-burning furnaces of the most amazing kind.

If that's just set your hype alarms off then chill...

I'm not SELLING anything... yet! : )

I'm looking for 2 sets of guinea pigs to go through the program for FREE as my... guests (you won't feel like a guest when you go through it).

One set of 12 people will be chosen for my online group and a set of 6 will be chosen to work with myself and my team at my Islington, London studios

The chosen few in each group will be told absolutely everything they need to know to accomplish... wait for it...

...30lbs In 30 Days!

Now, before you start telling me that it can't be done or it's 'unsafe', let me tell you that it CAN be done (I've helped numerous people achieve this over the years) and it IS safe (rapid weight loss is fine as long as macro and micronutrient levels are maintained at a level that supports health and that no dehydration methods are employed in order to achieve the loss).

And look, I'm not some exercise and nutrition extremist anyway, my approach is based upon healthy practices and, whilst aspects of the program will be intense, they're not going to ask people do starve themselves (or even count calories) and they won't require marathon training sessions of any kind (1 hour a day is hardly 'extreme', is it?)

So here's what I'm looking for...

==> I'm looking for men and women who are SERIOUS, as in 100% absolutely, definitely, without a doubt committed to losing 30lbs in the next 30 days

==> I'm looking for people who will start the program, follow ALL advice exactly as given FINISH the program to completion rather than doing it 'kinda, sorta, maybe' and then dropping out before it's over.

==> I'm looking for people that are ready, willing and able to blog their daily journey with me (including before, during and after pictures) and who will allow me permission to use their testimonials and pictures in future promotional material related to the program

==> I'm looking for people who are sick and tired of the way they look and feel and are in that 'place' where this is a must for them.

==> I'm looking for people who have access to resistance equipment or a gym, or who are prepared to purchase it by Sunday 21st June when the program starts.

If you're one of these people then you MAY qualify for one of my 12 online places.

In addition, if you want to work with me and my team in Islington, London then you need to be willing to do the following:

==> Attend AT LEAST 4 training sessions a week in Islington and carry out 'homework' as directed on the other days.

That's it!

Pretty simple, right?

Or, at least, it's simple if you're a seriously committed individual who absolutely, definitely want to achieve this in 30 days.

If it all sounds too much for you then you don't really need to read on, the program clearly isn't for you.

"Why's Dax Doing this?"

It should be obvious, but in the interests of transparency I'll spell it out.

I'm looking for walking, talking advertisements for the power and effectiveness of this new program and I'm willing to forgo payment to get them.

The way I figure it is this; people are sceptical. They don't really believe that results like this are possible so, if I were to just start selling the program on a website today, even though it works, I'd probably sell a handful only, as people wouldn't believe it was possible.

However...

At the end of this 30 day program I'm going to have 18 people demonstrating the absolute proof of my claims to anyone who'll listen. And it'll be in 'real time' too. None of those photoshopped before and after pictures that show miracle transformations (including fake tan and sucking tummies in).

Once my readers see the results for themselves I'll have no problem whatsoever selling the program. I guarantee it.

So THAT's my reason. It's up front for everyone to see. Nothing hidden.

Still Interested?

If you're still interested, here's what you need to do...

Use the comments section of this blog to tell my why YOU should be given one of these valuable places (They ARE valuable too. Working 1:1 with my costs £150 an hour!).

Go ahead and 'sell' yourself into the program by telling me absolutely anything and everything you think I need to know in order to make up my mind abut giving you a place.

My team and I will personally choose the 18 lucky winners.

I'll be announcing the chosen places at midnight on Thursday, so there's no time to hang about.

If you want in and you're SERIOUS (Did I mention that already?) then leave your message in the comments area below.

Two EXTREME Diets... Which Would YOU Choose?

I'm just writing a bunch of new nutrition articles for my blog and newsletter where I'm comparing the various approaches that people use to reduce fat fast.

Believe me, I've looked at TONS of different eating plans and philosophies over the years and have a really good idea about why people eat the way they  do but I'm still a little puzzled by the way many people think on the subject.

So I decided to do a little test : )

I've found 2 examples of diets that, by most people's standards are pretty extreme.

One involves fasting several times a week and promises rapid fat loss for those who follow this approach. It's got scores of scientific evidence and success testimonials supporting it.

The other involves using 'strategic cheating' where you're allowed to eat pizza, pasta, and coke and yet still drop fat. This one too, has tons of success stories that back up the authors claims. (Seems a bit far fetched to me and is about as far from the Elimination Diet program I run as can possibly be)

So here's the thing...

I'm interested in finding out how people feel about diets. What they most believe will work... and why!

Just check out these 2 diets and then leave a message in the comments area below and tell me what you think of these diets which sit at the opposite ends of a very wide spectrum.

I'd love to know (and I think it'll be a great topic for a 'big' article)

Can you help?

Go check 'em out right away!

Dax Moy

P.S - Which diet makes the most sense to you?

P.P.S - Time to plug my own diet : )

A little while ago I did an interview with Kettlebell Fatloss Expert Troy Anderson on how and why the elimination diet works. Troy asked a bunch of great questions so I asked if he'd let me give my own readers a copy and he agreed.

Here it is!

3 Foods You Should NEVER Eat!

*******************************************************************
Thanks to my buddy Craig Ballantyne over at Turbulence Training who's email newsletter this afternoon prompted me to write this article.
*******************************************************************

It's a hard thing to say NEVER about anything.

Never is a long time.

Never is... EVER, right?

So, given that I'm not an extremist, I guess I should retitle this to ' 3 Foods You Should Never Eat If You're Serious About Losing Fat And Getting Into Great Shape'

Fair enough?

So, what are they?

What are these foods that are likely to cost you the look and feel of the body you want?

Let's see...

No.1 - Wheat

For several reasons, wheat has an amazing ability to keep you from looking and feeling great due to the fact that, in its processed form, ground wheat flour practically becomes sugar, pure high glycemic carbohydrate that'll whack your insulin sky high and command your cells to store fat.

If that wasn't bad enough, many people are intolerant to processed wheat flour meaning that they suffer gastro-intestinal problems that can interfere with the digestion of other foods. This intolerance often leads to the storage of a huge amount of extra water into the system as the body tries to 'dilute' the effect of the wheat.

For this reason, skip wheat in all its forms while you're trying to get into great shape and only add it back in small amounts to monitor its effect on your body.

No.2 - Pasteurised/Homogenised Milk Products

Can milk really be that bad?

After all, most of us grew up on milk when we were younger and it didn't do us any harm... did it?

Well, that's a moot point as we can't turn back the clock and see what it was doing to you but the truth is, the milk we get in the stores today is far, far inferior to the stuff we used to drink when we were kids (especially when you're 38 like me!).

Back then you'd get thick, creamy milk with that glop of cream that clogged the mouth of the bottle when you first bought it. Not so today. Homogenisation means that the fat in the milk is now broken down into tiny molecules that hang suspended throughout the milk rather than floating to the top.

This is not done for the benefit of the drinker, rather it's done to extend the 'shelf life' of the milk out to as much as 11 days. Trouble is these micro-molecules of fat are largely undigestible and may even be harmful due to the fact that increases levels of Xanthine Oxydase in the bloodstream which is closely linked with heart disease.

Pasteurisation's not too good either.

First of all, the flash heating of the milk kills of the very enzymes that could help us to digest the milk in the first place, leaving our own stomaches to work overtime in the digestion process. Then, consider that the calcium is rendered indigestible by the process, the vitamin A is wiped out and the B and C vitamins are reduced by half (or more) and you realise that you're drinking calories with very few nutrients.

Why bother?

No.3 - Caffeine

Caffeine is the world's most widely drug.

And it IS a drug!

(I should know, I can, at times, be the world's biggest addict!)

Sure, we drink it socially, we relax to it (or think we are) and we tend to see it as pretty harmless. Because of this we drink bloody gallons of the stuff!

In fact, whilst the average consumption of caffeine worldwide is around 76mg, the US, Canada and UK are far closer on average to 300mg with Finland and Sweden approaching 400mg.

What's the problem with this?

Well, excessive caffeine consumption can and does lead to either chronic stress or adrenal fatigue which, among other things is often accompanied by malabsorption and maldigestion of nutrients, weakness, breakdown of muscle tissue, increased abdominal fat, blood sugar disturbances and more.

Also, it's PROVEN that caffeine adversely affects sleep which is vital component of any fat loss or muscle building program.

Still want that cup of coffee or tea?

Look, I'm not saying that you're never going to have a spaghetti, a glass of milk or a cup of coffee ever again. I like all of those things myself from time to time. But the truth is, when taken regularly, when consumed in large amounts or as the staple of your diet they're all bad stuff.

When taken during your attempts to shift bodyfat fast, they're worse!

Sure, there's a lot of conflicting information out there about these things. One 'expert' tell you to avoid them, one say you can have a little and yet another tells you that you can eat freely of them all.

Who's right?

Well, given that over 38,000 people have downloaded and used my FREE Elimination Diet to amazing effect, losing on average 15-25lbs in 30 days, I'll freely admit to you that I'm biased in my answer. I've seen these principles bring about changes like nothing else, and all without counting calories or weighing foods.

Sure, we all want to believe that 'cheat' diets that allow pizza, potato chips, donuts and coke will be ok, but we know that's not true don't we?

Just look around at all the people you know who are eating that stuff and decide for yourself whether that route is the right one or not.

I'll be back tomorrow with another 3 foods you should never eat but until then, pop on over to My FREE Elimination Diet and grab a copy for yourself. You don't HAVE to do it, just grab it check it out.

You'll soon realise why the only real way to 'lean up' and drop body fat is to clean-up.

Seeya tomorrow!

Your 15 Minute Beach Body Rescue Plan

want to get beach body ready?

Can you believe it? May is almost upon us already!

If you're like most people you're probably already picking out your holiday clothes and thinking ahead to when you can finally hit the beach, soak up some sun and get some well earned R and R.

But then it hits you. Sun, sea and sand all equal skimpy clothes and to make the most of those you've gotta have a body to go with them!

PANIC!!

Baring our all on holiday is often a terrifying prospect for many of us. If you feel self-conscious about your hip, thighs, stomach or indeed anywhere then it's likely that your holiday will be spent in a mild (sometimes not-so-mild) state of paranoia that can actually detract from your enjoyment of your time away from work. Instead of relaxing and enjoying your freedom you're doing the 'does my bum look big in this?' bit.

Does this sound familiar to you? If it does, you're not alone. But what can you do about it?

Well, there are plenty of things that you can do if you're willing to put forth a little effort over the coming weeks. No, strike that. You'll have to put forward A LOT of effort if you're going to pull this off in time.

[Hey, don't blame me! It's not my fault that you've overeaten and sat on your bum all winter!]

First of all, I want you to take out your diary. Starting TODAY I want you to find at least 15 minutes EACH DAY where you'll be able to carry out your conditioning program. Actually make the effort to put this time into the diary just like you would for any other appointment. In fact, this is more important than any other appointment because it's with yourself.

If you have a mobile phone with a reminder on it then programme your appointment there too. In fact, write this appointment down in as many places as you can so that you can't accidentally-on-purpose forget to exercise.

I think you get the idea by now. We're placing MASSIVE priority and importance upon these appointments. If we don't, they simply won't happen!

I can hear some of you saying 'but I really don't have the time to do this everyday!' To that I say 'Rubbish'. If you can't even find 15 minutes then you're simply not trying! 15 minutes is the MINIMUM amount that you'll need. Ideally it'll be twice this amount.

Next, go to your food cupboard and get rid of all of the processed food that you've been storing up. If it's got an 'E' or a number in the ingredients list it's outta there. (As an Elimination Diet subscriber you should already be most of the way there, right?)

From now until your hols you'll be consuming only 'real' food. Any meat or fish you want, any veg or any fruits you fancy as long as they aren't preserved in any way.

Why?

The preserving processes that are used on foods make them 'anti-nutrients' with many of them having similar properties to modern plastics. These foods wreak havoc on the digestive and immune systems and can lead to overeating and increased fat storage.

Cleaning up your diet, even without restricting your calorie intake is a fantastic way to change your appearance. After all, we've all heard the old adage 'you are what you eat' haven't we?

And now for the actual workout.

I know what you're thinking. 'How can I possibly make a difference in just 15 minutes a day?'.

Sounds a bit like one of those dodgy infomercial promises doesn't it? Well sure, if I were promising results without effort but that's not the case here. In fact, you're going to have to put forward LOTS of effort to make this work. We're talking consistency AND intensity here, which is normally what's missing in most people's programs.

[Note: I'm assuming that there are no orthopedic or medical problems present. If there are then you should consult your primary health care provider or a certified personal trainer before commencing the program]

Day One

Warm up with some brisk walking, stair climbing or skipping for about 3 min. Perform the following circuit for 30 seconds of each exercise with 30 seconds rest:

1. Squats
2. Shoulder Presses
3. Abdominal Curls
4. Lunges
5. Pushups (or kneeling variation)
6. Dumbell Rows

Repeat the circuit twice.

Now, be sure to build up to this, so don't go all out for the first couple of workouts. However, intensity is important so as soon as you feel able you should really start putting forward as much effort as you can into each 30 seconds.

At the end of the circuits, stretch out each muscle for about 30 seconds.

Day two

This is your CV day. Choose any two or three activities from the list below and perform 3 minute 'bursts' of high effort. Rest for a minute or two in between and then move onto the next activity.

Power Walking
Running
Sprints
Stair Climbing
Cycling
Skipping
Martial arts punch and kick combination s
Rowing

Or any other CV activity that you may enjoy.

Simply alternate these two days between now and your holiday. If you feel that you may be over training or not recovering then add a third day where you simply stretch out your tight or sore muscles to aid their recovery.

You may be thinking that this approach sounds too simple to yield any significant results but you'd be wrong. In fact, simplicity is the main reason that this approach works. And it really does work!

Give the program a fair try and dedicate 15 minutes a day to these exercises and I guarantee you'll be in far better shape for your holiday than you are right now. The alternative of course, is to do nothing, hope for the best and spend your holiday worried about your wobbly bits.

The choice is yours and only you can make a difference so start now. Today!

See you on the beach!

The 5 Reasons You're Still Struggling With Your Fat Loss

You know what it's like.

You've tried everything in your power to finally shift that weight that's been hanging on for so long and yet, despite your best efforts (or so you believe) you're still far from the condition you're hoping to achieve and you're baffled.

What's wrong?

Why can't you shift that fat?

From my experience it comes down to one of these 5 things.

1. You're Cheating!

No getting away from this one. We've all done it.

You say you're going to commit 100% to your fat loss goal but then, as soon as you're within sniffing distance of your favourite foods you tell yourself 'just one won't hurt' and before you know it, you're chomping away on the very thing that contributed to your fat gain in the first place.

Here's the deal.

You're an addict.

'Just one' WILL hurt!

Like all addicts you need to go cold turkey to break the cycle of dependence. No ifs, not buts.

The thing is, cheating on your diet accomplishes nothing. it keeps things exactly how they are. It keeps YOU exactly how YOU are!

Don't cheat!

2. You've Lost Your Why

I can't remember who first said it but the quote goes 'those that have a strong enough why will overcome almost any how'. This means, of course, if you have a good enough reason for doing what you need to do, you'll find the way to to do it, even if it's hard.

The flip side of this should be obvious.

If you're not clear on why you're doing what you're doing then practically anything you need to do to accomplish your goal will appear difficult, if not impossible.

You'll experience everything as obstacles rather than opportunities and feel that you're more likely to fail than succeed.

That's not a great foundation to build your goals upon is it?

Identify your why.

Be honest with yourself, why do you want to lose that fat? Yes, to look good in your bikini, we know that but what else? What's the REAL reason? Dig deep and find the real why and you'll increase your likelihood to achieve it a hundredfold.

3. You don't know what you want

Sure, you've set a goal to 'lose weight' or 'get fit' or 'tone up' but you've never absolutely, positively set a specific target.

There's a big difference between a weight loss goal like the ones above and 'I'm going to lose 50lbs by June 1st 2009' isn't there?

See, the thing is, you can't hit a target you can't see. So be specific. Set a big, obvious, prominent target with a specific timeline and commit to THAT timeline rather than being vague about 'losing some weight'.

What goal are YOU aiming at?

This is critical to know. Ignore it at your peril!

4. You're Trying to do it alone

You're not an expert on fatloss. if you were, you wouldn't be trying to lose fat, right? : )

So why are you trying to do this alone or with limited knowledge on losing fat?

Stop it now!

If you didn't know about your car engine, I'm sure you wouldn't attempt to strip down the engine block on your own right? You'd get a mechanic to do the job.

Your body is far more important than your car so stop tinkering with and and guessing and hoping that what you're doing is going to work.

Instead, seek out fat loss experts who'll give you the PROVEN dietary and exercise guidance that they use to get results for their clients, follow their advice and get those results for yourself. Hardly rocket science, but the number of people actually doing this are few and far between. And funnily enough, practically all of them have great physiques!

Take a look at some of these results HERE for women and HERE for men and you'll see what a difference it makes to get professional advice.

5. You're Trying to do it alone part 2

Once you've gotten your professionally designed program, you're not cheating, you know your why and you have a laser like focus on the specific goals you want to achieve then make sure you find and join a support group to keep your motivation high. This is not just a suggestion, it's a necessity!

You see, those who are attempting massive changes in their health, fitness and appearance often undergo massive swings in motivation with huge highs and dramatic lows. It's during the lows that self-doubt and the feelings to quit come into play and, before you know it you've cheated, told yourself you'll never succeed and quit the program that you started out on with such high hopes.

Having support means that this won't happen.

Sure, you'll still get the swings, the highs, the lows but you'll be talking to people that are going through the same as you, experiencing the same problems and feelings and who know what you're going through. They'll drag you back up when you're flagging and you can return the favour when they need it.

This is win-win and is responsible for more people achieving their health and fitness goals than practically any other reason.

Get support and you're most of the way there, do it alone and the goal feels miles off.

There you have, the top 5 reasons why your fat loss goals fail.

And also the prescription you need to make sure they never fail again, right?

Apply all 5 steps and your fat loss is guaranteed!

No B.S Advice To Get The Most Out Of Your Elimination Diet

I get a lot of emails from people asking me what they need to do to get the most from the 30 day elimination diet program.

A lot!

It seems that people are always looking for 'tweaks' to jazz up the program or, more commonly, acceptable alternatives (read cheats) that they can employ to make the program better fit their 'lifestyle' as they put it.

So look, here's my feedback to you all.

You might not like all that you hear but nonetheless it's true with no B.S involved, meaning that you'll get better results faster.

Time for some straight-talk.

Sound good to you?

1. Just Follow the Diet... To the Letter!

Very few people write me to say that they got disappointing results from the diet, but those that do are always, ALWAYS those who try to get cute with the diet and change it in some way.

Leave it alone.

It works.

Just follow it for 30 days, keep all the banned foods from your diet for the entire time and Bob's your uncle, results guaranteed!

Mess with it, change it and convince yourself that 'a little change here and there won't hurt' and you're no longer following the protocol. If you're no longer following the protocol you're no longer guaranteed results.

You need to ask yourself this simple question.

'Do I want results or do I want to do things my way?'

No offence intended to anyone here but if you're downloading a dietary system off the web, you're probably not happy with one or more aspects of your health, fitness or physique, all of which you've had 100% control over developing up to this point... and failed. Or at least, haven't achieved what you want to achieve in these areas.

So your way's not working.

Yet I know for a fact that my way does. EVERY TIME!

Look, the elimination diet is just 30 days long, it'll give you great results IF YOU DON'T MESS WITH IT.

So don't mess with it ok?

Read the manual. Follow the manual. Take nothing away. Add nothing. Change nothing. Results guaranteed.

Couldn't be simpler : )

Get Active

The elimination diet is powerful in and of itself even without exercise. On average, the 38,000 people that have been through the program so far have lost between 15 and 20lbs in the 30 days.

Many have lost more.

MUCH more.

But those who go on to break double-digits in fat loss have nearly always added exercise to their programs and so should you if you want to make the most of your time on the program.

The best program is one that includes resistance training in a 'circuit training' style or supersets. The one i recommend most is from my good buddy Craig Ballantyne at Turbulence Training. The program is a great accompaniment to the Elimination Diet and will speed up your fat loss better than practically everything else I've come across.

Turbulence Training

That said, you don't HAVE TO have a professionally designed program. Just getting more active on a daily basis will help. Committing to a bodyweight or freeweight routine 3 times a week will really tip the balance in favor of fatloss and changing your body shape fast.

Whatever you do though, do SOMETHING!

Don't just sit on your butt HOPING that you'll change your body shape. That's what you've been doing up til now and it hasn't worked so why would it suddenly start working now?

Guarantee your results by being proACTIVE and committing to making it happen and it will. Sit on your butt and nothing happens. Your choice.

Stop Blaming Willpower. You Don't Need It!

There may be times during the elimination diet when you find yourself in social situations where following the diet will be hard. Your willpower will be tested.

Deal with it.

I know that sounds uncaring but it really isn't.

I mean, plan ahead and actually deal with it.

Bring suitable foods or snacks of your own, phone ahead to find out what the menu is in advance so that you can plan or simply don't go. Just don't whine and complain that there's nothing you can do about it. There is. No-one can MAKE you eat and drink the foods that are banned on the diet.

You choose to.

Admit it and you're immediately empowered.

Deny it and you put all the problems related to your health, fitness and physique 'out there' by saying that you don't play a part in creating the body you wear.

Plan and create your menu in advance or choose not to go. You don't have to slip up. You choose to...

...or not!

Don't Quit

Stay with the diet.

It's only 30 days.

The results are guaranteed.

It's free.

All the information and resources required to make the changes you claim you want are right here, right now and free.

What more do you want?

You need to make a true decision and commitment to finishing the 30 days and on no account even entertain the idea that you won't finish it. The word decision mean 'to cut off from all other possibilities'. Have you?

Don't look for a get out of jail free card.

There isn't one.

If you don't commit to the program then you won't get the results you want. In effect, you're back in jail. Trapped in the body you no longer want.

The only breakout comes from finishing what you start.

So finish!

It Ain't So Hard!

Look, the truth is that whilst the elimination diet may be challenging to some at first, it's not really that hard. You're being asked to kick out the foods that have built the body you're wearing. The body you no longer want.

You say you want better so make it happen.

And it's 30 days.

Just 30 days.

And they're going to pass anyway, regardless of whether you do the program right or not, right?

Just like the last 30 and the 30 before that and the 30 before that.

Time passes, that's inevitable.

You can't do anything about it.

But what you can choose, what you have 100% control over, is what you spend that time on.

So spend it well and commit.

Smoking is Safe... Here Is The Proof!

Since I've been writing recently about organic foods and the dangers of pesticides I've been getting a lot of emails from people telling me that I should be more 'careful' about making unsubstantiated claims about potential hazards (I say a lot, I got about 16 or so out of a mailing list of 38,000 people so not really that many).

"After all, you're not a doctor" they reminded me "if there were any problems with pesticides in food then the medical community would be the first to let us know"

They're right of course.

About me not being a doctor, I mean.

I'm not.

But then, who said doctors were right about health, anyway?

Yes, I know they're old clips but still, at the time these ads were filmed, doctors were supporting smoking as being harmless.

Puts a different spin on 'medical proof' doesn't it?

Back to the subject of pesticides in and on food, the tins they come in say 'poison - biohazard!', those that work with them wear protective clothing and hundreds of thousands of deaths occur every year from accidental ingestion of them.

You don't need a medical study to tell you that a diet consisting of foods that have been heavily treated with pesticides is not good for your health. It is, or should be, common sense.

Look, I'm not here to beat you over the head with organic vs non-organic. I'm not a green activist or anything like that, but given that most people reading my posts want to look, feel and perform better than they currently do, it makes sense to tell you what may be keeping you from achieving those things, right?

The Elimination diet is a major step in the right direction. No calorie counting, no meal restrictions, no weighing and measuring or any other nonsense, just good, clean, healthy and wholesome foods that are free of nasties.

You don't have to believe it'll work.

Just suspend disbelief for 30 days then make your own mind up about who to believe.

Are You Malnourished? The Case For Organic Foods

Well, my last post about organic vs non-organic certainly got a reaction.

I have a deluge of emails into my inbox ranging from comments like "About time someone was talking about this!" to "This is utter nonsense. If pesticides were harmful then they wouldn't be allowed to be used on foods. You shouldn't be scaremongering!!" and practically everything in between.

Regardless of which 'camp' you were in, thanks for taking the time to write me with your thoughts on this subject (though I do wish you'd have written them here on the blog so more people could benefit from your comments) : )

By far the most common reaction though, was more like this:

"I understand and mostly agree with the need to eat cleaner, fresher and less adulterated foods but the truth is, they're more expensive and I just can't afford them as much as I'd like. What am I supposed to do?"

Again, another great question, and one that I'm sure most people ask themselves when it comes to making the decision between non-organic and organic produce, right?

Here's my take on it.

Non organic is cheaper, it's true. The average family and especially those on low incomes can buy around 30-50% more food when bought non-organically than they can if they choose the organic option and so it would seem that whilst organic is an ideal scenario, the practicalities mean that most people simply can't justify coming home with a smaller bag of groceries with hungry mouths to feed.

I get it.

I'm a father of four and before my business took off, I was on a low income and felt the same way. I couldn't justify organic foods because of the costs.

Then, over time I started to see things differently.

I noticed that my non-organic shopping, whilst greater in quantity, always seemed to leave my family hungry. They always wanted more. Bigger servings, more snacks in between and practically non-stop cravings for more food.

By contrast, when my family ate organic, they ate smaller portions, less frequently and they rarely, if ever, complained of hunger or asked for more.

It was then that it hit me, truly for the first time ever.

The most important nutritional truth.

Ready for it?

It'll change your life (if you let it!)

Here it is.

Your body doesn't know 'food', all it knows is nutrients.

Bear with me because I know that it probably doesn't sound that amazing as you read it at your PC but it really is.

You see, we get hung up on food all the time. We get hung up on calories, portion sizes, meal frequencies and all manner of things but none of that is anywhere near as important as the nutrients within the things we eat.

Your body just knows that it is running out of certain nutrients.

"Vitamin B6 is getting low" it says and so you get a 'feed me' signal to eat and (hopefully) stock up on the missing vitamin.

"Calcium is running out" it says and again, you get a 'feed me' signal to eat and stock up on some calcium.

It's that straight forward, that simple... and that complex : )

So, when you eat denatured and nutrient poor foods, either because they've been chemically altered or over-processed, your body breaks them down, looks for the nutrients it needs and, if they're not there (which they won't be), simply commands you to eat again so that it can get what it needs.

It's got nothing to do with calories.

You might have already eaten your recommended daily amount of calories but still be lacking nutrients and so you'll be commanded to eat again, and again, and again.

This is not hunger. This is malnutrition.

The truth is hard to believe, but the fact is, many of us are malnourished!

But it's not all bad news, because the reverse is also true.

If you eat a diet that is replete with the nutrients your body requires then you eat less. You eat when your body needs a new supply of nutrients. You stop snacking, you stop feeling hungry all the time and you stop throwing excess calories into your body for no reason.

This is why the elimination diet works so well. It focuses on allowing your body to extract the maximum nutrition from your foods so that you get hungry less often and so lose fat faster whilst at the same time maintaining lean muscle.

What's this got to do with where the conversation started; the cost of organic vs non-organic?

It's pretty simple really.

When you eat non-processed (including chemical processes) foods, you're getting the maximum available nutrition from everything you eat. Because of this, you simply eat less and less often.

What I'm saying here is that you don't have to buy nearly as much organic food as you do non-organic to get your nutritients so it's not more expensive to eat this way at all.

In fact, you may even find, like my family did, that it's cheaper to eat organically than non-organically because you buy much less of the usual rubbish that most families consume on a weekly basis.

Still not sure if you agree with me?

Try it for 1 week.

Try feeding yurself and your family from organic sources for just 1 week and see if you can notice the difference for yourself. If not, then hey, just ignore me, what do I know, right? : )

Elimination Diet Truths: Are Your Veggies Making You Sick?

Since I released The Elimination Diet I’ve been bombarded by emails from people asking me just how strict one needs to be with their nutrition in order to get the benefits I often speak of.

Nowhere more so than in the area of organic vs. non-organic fruits and vegetables.

“Do I really have to buy organic?” they say “Does it really make that much difference? After all, I an afford twice as much non-organic fruits and vegetables as organic ones. Wouldn’t it be better to have more than to be ‘fussy’ about it having to be organic?”

These are the most commonly asked questions and, to be fair, they’re all good ones, especially as we’re always being told to eat our 5 servings a day, right? After all, we all know that organic costs a fair bit more than non-organic and, especially if you’re a parent trying to feed your family on a budget, it would seem to make more sense to buy more so that your family could consume more wouldn’t it?

Wouldn’t it?

Well, some argue that the pesticide contamination on crops is so minimal as for it to be of no concern to our health, yet increasing numbers of health and medical experts are now suggesting that even small doses of pesticide exposure (which are, after all, poison) can have a negative impact on health. Especially if consumed over longer periods of time… like in our foods every day.

And alarmingly, the more diligent you are at feeding yourself and your family their 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, the more likely you are to see the negative effects of toxicity. In fact, an Environmental Working Group study recently showed that if you consume the daily average non-organic fruit and vegetable intake, you would in fact be consuming a cocktail of no les than 15 different pesticides PER DAY!

And the main culprits for this toxic insult to our bodies?

Here they are, ranked in order of worst first:

1. Peaches
2. Apples
3. Sweet Bell Peppers
4. Celery
5. Nectarines
6. Strawberries
7. Cherries
8. Pears
9. Grapes (imported)
10. Spinach
11. Lettuce
12. Potatoes
13. Carrots
14. Green Beans
15. Hot Peppers
16. Cucumbers
17. Raspberries
18. Plums
19. Grapes (Domestic)
20. Oranges

Quite a list, right?

That’s practically every fruit and vegetable that the average family would eat over the course of a week, meaning that in EVERY MEAL or snack, there are adding to the overall toxic load of the body and making more susceptible to these medically linked conditions:

• Cancer
• Fertility problems
• Brain tumors
• Childhood leukemia
• Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
• Birth defects
• Irritation to skin and eyes
• Hormone or endocrine system problems including weight gain
• Nervous system damage

And that’s not to mention conditions that haven’t yet been proven to link to pesticide ingestion, though new studies are coming in all the time.

So, what can you do about this?

Well, contrary to popular belief, simply washing or soaking your fruits and veggies isn’t enough to remove the build-up of pesticides. After all, these crops have been sprayed throughout every single phase of their growth. Washing and peeling will remove some of the build-up, but nowhere near enough.

The only way to be 100% sure is to eat organically grown produce.

Yes, it’s more expensive, there’s no getting away from that, but that’s because growing crops without pesticides is harder, longer and more labour intensive. However, the end result of organic farming is healthier, more nutritious and more likely to contribute to the long term health of you and your family, which cannot be said about non-organic.

Don’t let the greater quantity fool you into thinking that non-organic is ok. In truth, eating more simply means that you’re poisoning yourself with pesticide faster, right?

Food for thought isn’t it?

Can You REALLY Get Fit, Firm and Fat Free From Just 4 Minutes??

Hey There,

As we're moving into spring it seems like the phones in my London Personal Training studios have been ringing off the hook with enquiries from people looking to start their new 'get fit for spring' routines.

First and foremost amongst their questions is "How can I fit enough exercise into my life to make enough of an impact on my goals?"

Fair question really, after all, it's lack of time that's the reason behind why most of us are out of shape in the first place, right?

It takes time to get home from work, get changed, get to the gym, workout, shower and get home again. For most of us that's simply time we don't have, or at least, that we don't have MUCH of.

That's why I advocate short workouts to all of my clients as part of their homework strategy when training with my team. Most workouts are 20 minutes or less but occasionally, even 20 minutes is too long for some of my clients... or so they say : )

So what about 4 minutes?

Sound too long to you?

It's something that could quite easily be fitted in between TV commercials or chapters of a book even.

And yes, it'll still provide an awesome, powerful fat burning workout. Check out these videos for more of what I'm talking about here.

Video 1 is an explanation of intensity and the other 2 are the 4 minute workouts themselves. Try one out and see how much work it gives you. You'll be very surprised!

See, pretty tough right?

And a great cardio, strength and fat burning session all rolled into one.

Does it produce great results!

You betcha!

Give my 4 minute workouts a try for just 1 week and see what happens. (Obviously, if you can fit in 2, 3 or 4 of these you'll get better results but even 1 is still worth doing).

Enjoy!

You Can't Out-Train A Poor Diet!

Well, these Q and A's are going really well aren't they?

I'm getting tons of excellent feedback on them already.

Here's another...

"Hello Dax,

My main goal today is not fat-loss (I think I don't have too much fat to lose when I look at myself), but it is to get bulky and muscular.

Will I be able to achieve that goal with a quite normal (as healthy as possible, but without having to count on different food portions) diet and not a fitness supplement, but mostly based on long term results of reasonably hard resistance training (I mean near muscle failure, but trying to avoid it)?

Thank you for your kind answer,"

JuanMa

My Answer...

Hey JuanMa

Great question, and one which I’m sure many, many people will be asking.

Now, to the answer : )

The truth is, most results in body composition, whether they be gaining muscle mass like your goal, or losing bodyfat like many, are created in the mouth and the old truism ‘you can’t out-train a poor diet’ is a good one to bear in mind… regardless of your goal.

That said, I’m a firm believer that apart from the extreme end of the spectrum (like bodybuilding for competition) there is no need to count calories, weigh and measure food or take supplements.

Most goals are able to be accomplished on a quality diet with good. Wholesome, ‘clean’ foods that have not been altered through chemicals or additives.

The elimination diet allows for practically any goal to be achieved because it’s so clean. All you have to do is ensure you’re following the diet most of the time (after the 30 days I recommend the 80/20 approach – 80% of the time you follow the diet strictly, 20% of the time you let your hair down. Most people are following the exact opposite!)

Ensure that you get a good quality and variety of protein sources from meat, fish and poultry, eat a wide variety of vegetables, nuts and legume and you’ll have no problems building muscle.

As long as you follow a relatively rigorous muscle building program of course! : )

Hope this helps

Dax

P.S – Got a question of your own? Pop it down and I’ll try my best to answer it.

P.P.S - Did you guess right about my weekend 'mystery trip' as part of my MAGIC Hundred goal achievement program?

Let's find out : )

Not bad for a weekend huh? : )

Where's Dax Going? Can You Guess?

Hey Guys

Tomorrow I'm off with my 8 year old son Connor and my wife Deana to accomplish a goal that he had set as part of his MAGIC Hundred quite some time ago.

We've put it off a little due to being pretty busy but his school is doing a whole bunch of great stuff about the importance of having goals and he's been talking about it again.

So we're taking him out of school a couple of days early this week to make sure that he accomplishes this goal and also so that I accomplish one of mine too (cool when your MAGIC hundred lines up with other people's huh?) : )

So, c'mon...

...where do you think I'm going?

Take a guess!

Dax moy
www.daxmoy.ning.com

P.S - Connor is one of the best travelled and World-experienced 8 year olds I know.

He's snorkled on the great barrier reef, been to Ayers Rock, Kakadu National Park, Cape Tribulation, The Blue Mountains in Australia, Angkor Wat in Cambodia, Hanoi and Hoi An in Vietnam, Elephant Trekking in far Northern Thailand (in fact he's been to Thailand 16 times), he's survived the Tsunami (yes, he was actually IN it!), he's been to the leaning tower of Pisa, The Coliseum in Rome, Monte Carlo, Cannes, all over Spain, Dineyland Florida 3 times...

Blimey!

I can't believe I'm writing about MY kid : )

All of my holidays were in the UK until I was 21!!

Not just 'cos he's my kid, but he's an awesome little by who loves life, loves helping people and has high expectations of what he's going to do, where he's going to visit and the things he's going to experience.

Great lessons for us all :)

Oh, and by the way, he has NO idea that we're taking him anywhere. He thinks he's coming to see me off at the airport for a business trip : )

What's The Best Training For Fat Loss?

Well, yesterday's Q and A seemed to go down pretty well with many of you emailing me to tell me that the answer about losing saddlebags and muffin tops was really helpful.

Great!

I'm so pleased to put that one to bed. We should be seeing much faster results now right? : )

Anyway, onto today's question.

It's an interesting one from Susan...

"Dax, my training philosophy has been that if you want to lose weight/fat, the best strength training protocol would be circuit training using a lower than max. weight/higher reps/little to no rest between sets.
Cardio would involve HIIT 2 - 3x/week.

Conversely, if you want to add mass/bulk, you would look towards a hypertrophy program such as 5x5 - max. weight/lower reps/rest between sets. Cardio would be steady state.

Obviously, there are diet manipulations based on the goal, but I was having a discussion w/ someone this week who told me its a "myth" that you won't cut lifting using a program such as 5x5 or Rippetoe. That through diet manipulation they can cut as much weight using a training program focusing on hypertrophy based on their diet, and not sacrifice muscle.

I would love your expert opinion on this to clear up any misconceptions I may have.

Thanks!"

Susan

My Answer...

Hi Susan, that's not a bad outlook actually. Circuit training with either multiple stations, peripheral heart action patterns, supersets etc is indeed a very effective system of increasing metabolism and buring lots of fat.

Makes sense when you think about it.

There are around 600 muscles in the human body and the more we can work in any given session, the more metabolically active we become, the more immediate calories we burn and, of course, the more EPOC based calories (after exercise) we burn too.

I call this my '600 rule' and build all of my fat loss training around this power principle.

This makes a circuit-based approach VERY effective for fat loss when combined with the right diet.

That said, whilst one of the methods of performing the circuits is to use lighter weight and more reps, one shouldn't think that this is the ONLY way to go.

It's not.

In fact, circuits and supersets with heavier loads can work just as well for fat loss. This is due to the fact that it's not so much reps that determine the fat burning effect of a set, but rather the total force exerted. The more force, the more energy expended and tissue 'damage' done. This is a good thing as the energy costs are high over time.

Personally, I'd shake up your training so that you use a good variety of rep ranges either from circuit to circuit (my favourite), from workout to workout, or from 'phase' to phase (like, 3 weeks heavy, 3 weeks moderate, 3 weeks lighter).

You can do a circuit with 4-6 reps, another with 8-12 reps, another with with 15-20 and even go as high as 40 reps (yes, I know!).

In truth, it's the mix of repetition ranges and loads that will provide the best metabolic effect as all fibres, energy system and motor-units will be recruited meaning that maximum muscle usage and, of course, energy usage occurs.

Regardless though, it is nutrition and not training that accounts for the greatest impact in fat loss. If your diet is poor and you don't control what goes into your mouth, how often, how much and of what quality then your training will make you fitter, make you stronger and give you better endurance but you'll never be lean.

That's why my free Elimination Diet is a great accompaniment to any fat loss program as you'll clean up and 'lean up' faster, even without changing your exercise program.

Hope this helps!

How To Speed Up Saddlebag or Muffin Top Fat Loss

Well, I've gotten quite a few questions posted here on the blog and the community over at www.daxmoy.ning.com over the last few days so, I guess I best got on and answer them.

I'll be picking one or 2 questions a day, so if you have any of your own, don't forget to add them ok?

Here's Question 1 from Kelly

"I know I can't target a particular spot on my body and shape it without doing total body workouts to burn fat, but what is the best exercise for 'saddle bags'? (As in the excess fat women carry on top of their butt at the back of their hips)

Thanks for all of your hints and tips - I love that I have such a reliable source of information. I've been checking out your website and blogs for the last year, but only this year when I did your ED did I really get a handle on how bad I was eating. My progress has now sped up considerably and I've lost 9kg and 10cms of my waist since sorting out my diet. So a million times thank-you for your support and great reality checks!!!"

First off, thanks for you kind words Kelly, I really appreciate hearing about the great results you've been getting from The Elimination Diet, Keep up the great work!

Now, to your question...

It's a very common question that I receive from both readers and clients and, perhaps surprisingly, it's a very easy question to answer.

The site you're talking about is a common fat storage site in both men and women who notice first a 'thickening' of the area and then a 'fleshing out' and finally the growing of 'love handles' or 'muffin tops' as some people call them. No matter what you call them, they're fat and, as such, they respond (almost) like all fat.

Meaning that you CAN burn them off and expose the firm, muscular abdominals, obliques and lower back muscles again. Regardless of how long you've had them.

Now, the reason I say 'almost' is because, whilst this type is the same as abdominal fat, the reason for it being laid down is different. Whilst all fat has its roots in over-consumption of calories, the sites that fat is deposited tell us a lot about the hormonal balances of the body as the time it was laid down.

For example, whilst belly fat is closely related to cortisol (the stress hormone), the area of the back and hips (including the lower back/love handle area) is related to over production of insulin relative to other hormones.

Knowing this, we can approach fat loss more strategically.

For a start, insulin over-production is directly related to over-consumption of carbohydrates. Sugars. I don't just mean table sugar (but DEFINITELY includes this) but all simple carbs.

Go for low GI (Glycemic index) carbs and reduce the overall carbohydrate intake and make sure that those consumed are spread throughout the day to avoid insulin 'spikes' that will command your body to store fat. Maintain a steady protein and fat intake and be sure to supplement your diet with a high quality fish oil too.

Regarding training, shorter, more intense workouts utilising resistance training carried out twice a day seem to work out best for this area. I've found that 2 x 15-20 minute sessions are more effective at mobilising fat in general (and this area specifically) due to increased insulin resistance over time.

Circuit-style training, supersets and shorter, high intensity workouts such as Turbulence Training or Warp Speed Fatloss work excellently for this... as long as an Elimination Diet protocol is followed.

Also, try training more often, like daily, rather than 3 times a week. Just as 2 mini workouts a day is more powerful at mobilising this seemingly stubborn fat, so too are daily sessions better than less frequent ones.

Hope this helps!

The Best Ways To Lose Belly Fat

Here's ANOTHER Belly Fat Article From My Good Buddy Craig Ballantyne... check it out if you're looking to lose fat fast and finally see those abs!

I often get asked, “What’s the best way to burn fat and lose my belly?” People want to know if aerobics is better than strength training, or if traditional cardio exercise is better than intervals.

Well, to say I've done them all would be an understatement.

With over 15 years experience helping others, training myself, training for sports, spending countless hours in the gym, AND actually conducting laboratory research studies on different exercise methods, I'm pretty confident in knowing what works and what does not.

But first of all, I want to frame my responses. I'm going to talk about what works for people that have a limited amount of time to exercise, mostly because I expect your readers don't have 90 minutes per day to devote to a workout, unlike the typical audience of a fitness magazine.

That's why there is a huge disconnect between some of the information found in magazines and the ability of the reader to apply it to their lives.

We just don't have 6-8 hours per week for exercise, nor do we need it. If you're a triathlete, you might need that, but not someone that just wants to lose fat and gain muscle.

Having said all that, the bottom line for getting a better body is...

Use bodyweight exercises to warm-up, strength training supersets to build muscle, and then finish your workout with interval training to burn fat in a short amount of time. I've structured my system so that you are in and out of the gym in 45 minutes, three times per week.

You'll do 5 minutes of bodyweight exercises to warm-up. This is a much more efficient approach than spending 5 minutes walking on a treadmill, which really doesn't prepare you for anything except more walking on a treadmill.

Then we move into the strength training supersets, where we use two exercises performed back to back with minimum rest between each. This cuts our workout time, while still giving us maximum results. We only need 20 minutes for this, and we'll use basic exercises, and sometimes even more bodyweight exercises, depending on the client's goal for muscle building.

And finally, we'll do 18 minutes of interval training. A warm-up, followed by six short intervals at the appropriate fitness level for the client, interspersed with short periods of low-intensity recovery. Finish with a cool-down. And that's the workout. Again, about 45 minutes total.

Compare that to what most people do, which is run, jog, cycle or use the cardio machines for 45 minutes straight. Sure, that will burn calories, but it doesn't build a better body.

In fact, there are a few "dark sides" to long slow cardio, including less-than-optimal results, the potential for overuse injuries, and it is an inefficient form of exercise. If you only have 30-45 minutes for your workout and you spend it all on a cardio machine, when are you going to train the rest of your muscles and sculpt a better body?

So the best way to burn belly fat is with a combination of strength training and interval training. It’s fast, it works, and it’s fun!

The 7 Secrets For Getting Your Fatloss Back On Track After The Holidays

If you've found returning to the gym after the Christmas holidays to be a difficult, almost impossible task due to waning or even non-existent motivation you're not alone.

At this time of year it seems that almost everyone finds it easier to slip into the baggy, loose-fitting winter clothes to disguise the winter pounds, snuggle up on the sofa with a cup of cocoa and a packet of cookies and watch the TV rather than getting back to the gym or starting that new diet.

The trouble is, as nice as that approach may sound at the time, it's the exact recipe for guaranteeing you'll add pound after wobbly pound of hard to shift fat, that you'll spend all spring and summer complaining about isn't it?

After all, isn't that the approach you took last year? And the year before that?

As tough as it sounds when the days are dark, cold, wet and gloomy, the only real way to guarantee that you'll arrive at the first day of spring in great shape is to start paying your dues right now. You've got to take action.

But how?

How do you get into the swing when it's the last thing you really feel like?

Here are 5 surefire ways to get yourself taking action on your health and fitness goals without making a huge chore of it. Who knows, you may even enjoy it!

1. DON'T Join a gym... unless you really enjoy being there in the first place

Let's be honest about it; most people can't stand gyms. We join them because we think we're supposed to because that's what 'everyone' does. (The fact that 'everyone' drops out of their memberships within a month is neither here nor there... apparently).

Most people don't like them, rarely go and when they do, they work way too hard for far too little result. So why bother?

Skip the gym this year until you've already established your fitness plan at home, in the park, at the pool or even just walking the dog or playing with the kids.

Activity is activity. Your body doesn't know the difference between a high tech gym machine or the rusty dumbell you keep under your bed so save your money and your time by training in the environment you most enjoy.

2. Keep Your Workouts Short and Sweet

It seems that 'typical' gym programs have been designed to fit into an hour... regardless of whether or not you have an hour to spare or whether you're fit enough to last that long.

Somewhere the 'a workout lasts an hour' rule has become cast in stone in the minds of many exercisers and even their personal trainers with many feeling that working out for anything less than this is a waste of time.

Says who?

Look, if you can consistently and without fail workout for 10, 15 or 20 minutes a day every day you're doing yourself a better favor than going to the gym just 2-3 times a week for an hour, both physically and psychologically.

Besides, shorter workouts allow for a greater intensity, you can train harder, meaning that you'll get better results than those long, slow, boring gym sessions.

Besides, we all know that a gym hour isn't an hour, right? You have to travel there, get changed, train for an hour, get showered, get changed and drive home again. We're talking 2 hours or more! Forget it, keep your workouts short and sweet and save yourself the stress.

3. Don't Jump In At The Deep End

When most people start a new exercise program they tend to read about it in a magazine or workout manual (or hire the toughest trainer at their gym!) and go hell for leather from day one. Then they wonder why they're aching, sore, stiff and starting to dread their workouts more and more with each passing day.

Start slow.

If you haven't exercised in a while then maybe 10 or 15 minutes is all you need. Be kind to yourself. Keep some gas in the tank. Tomorrow you can do 16 minutes if you like and the day after you can do 17.

You wouldn't run a full marathon without building up your mileage through progressively longer distances so don't do it with your workouts. Build up. Enjoy it. Have fun.

4. Follow a Simple, Unambiguous Diet Plan

When most people start a new health kick they've the tendency to go for the diets with all the 'flashes, bangs and whistles', presumably in the hope that because some celebrity or other endorses it, it must be good. So they start it, get confused (or frustrated) and quit.

Don't fall for this failure trap.

Instead, choose a dietary system based upon simple principles that you can understand, that you agree with and that make sense to you. Once you've chosen it, commit to sticking with your plan and following it exactly for a predetermined period or you'll find yourself flitting from diet A to diet B whilst thinking about diet C. This is a sure recipe for failure.

Give it 30 days and then change it up if you have to.

5. Set Yourself A Clear, Unambiguous Goal

Most people start their new programs with a goal of 'getting fit' or 'losing fat' and wonder why they never seem to see any appreciable results. The answer is simple.

It's near impossible to be motivated by 'lose some fat'. How will you know when you get there? Instead, set a clear goal with a definite time frame attached. 'I will lose 20lbs by March 1st is a definite goal you can measure your progress by. If you fall off track you can pick things up by doing more, working harder or eating stricter.

See the difference?

Be clear about what you want and, in all likelihood, you'll get it!

6. Get Rid of Your 'Fat' Clothes.

It's too easy to hide your physical condition in baggy clothes during the winter in the hope that no-one will notice how out of shape you've gotten. But YOU know don't you?

Stop kidding yourself, stop using the get out of jail free card and put yourself on the spot.

Get rid your baggies, donate them to charity, burn them even. Stop holding your fat clothes 'in reserve' in case you fail to lose the weight or, heaven forbid, put it back on. Don't allow yourself the option of failure and you won't fail. Simple.

7. Sweeten The Deal.

We all like rewards don't we? It sort of makes the whole effort we go through feel more worth it somehow, right? So offer yourself a bribe, an irresistible offer that you can cash in on once your goal is reached.

Maybe it'll be a big shopping spree for new clothes, a vacation, a new car or whatever else takes your fancy. Whatever it is, make it feel like a great big reward, something that'll excite you and use it as motivational fuel every time you feel like dropping from the plan.

You'll be amazed at what a little self-bribery will accomplish.

Day 10 of January Elimination Diet Challenge

Well, 10 days have passed and, unless you're doing something wrong (like cheating) you should be seeing and feeling at least a few results from the program by now.

I've been getting emails from people everyday telling me about the results people are getting and, well, some of them are simply amazing!

6lbs, 8lbs, 10lbs and even 12lbs in the last 10 days. Supposedly impossible when you speak to the mainstream fitness industry and the medical community about what's possible and yet, well, it's happening.

(In fact, I'd love to hear where YOU are at today too!)

But look, it would be really dishonest to claim that EVERYONE is achieving these results.

They're not.

Even though people are telling me they're looking and feeling better, that their aches and pains and many medical conditions are healing up (If you've been getting relief from some long term medical condition I'd love to hear about that too) some are concerned that their fat loss is not as fast as others they're hearing about.

I tell all those people the same thing.

Some people lose weight and fat in an almost linear fashion. 1-2LB a week like clockwork... sometimes more.

Others are not so regular. They lose a pound in a week, lose nothing for 2 weeks then suddenly drop 5-10lbs. I don't know why.

There's no scientific explanation for this.

It just happens.

What I can tell you though, is that invariably it all equals out.

Regardless of whether you lose faster, slower, in a linear fashion or in jumps, it all equals out and over time both groups do well from the program.

So don't lose heart ok?

And don't quit.

10 days in and 20 to go.

Keep it up my friends.

P.S - I've been asked about food ideas and resources I trust for the elimination diet.

Well, as well as my own cookbook that you'll find at www.daxmoy-pts.co.uk/eliminationcookbook.asp I also recommend Rosa Coelho's Excellent 101 Healthy Recipe's For The Office as it fills in some of the blanks about how to fit the diet into worklife. You can read more about it HERE

Why Your Diet and Exercise Plan is Keeping You Fat

Today's Post courtesy of my good friend Alwyn Cosgrove author of Warp Speed Fat Loss...

Homeostasis is the property of a living organism, that regulates its internal environment so as to maintain a stable, constant condition.

When you don’t drink enough water in the short term — often the body retains water. It attempts to maintain homeostasis by counteracting the stresses we put on it.

When you drink a lot of extra water - your body excretes more water to maintain balance.

When we weight train — we actually break down muscle tissue. And the body responds by building new muscle. It attempts to maintain homeostasis by doing the reverse of the stimulus we placed on it.

When a male takes supplemental testosterone — the body shuts down its own production in a bid to maintain homeostasis.

When we immunize children against disease — we actually inject them with a small dose of that disease. The immune system recognizes the vaccine as foreign, destroys it, and ‘remembers’ it. When the virulent version of an agent comes along, the immune system is thus prepared to respond. In order to prepare the body to defend against a disease - we expose it to the disease - and it responds by doing the opposite - it destroys the disease.

In almost every situation I can think of, the body tries to maintain homeostasis by “doing the opposite” of the stimulus.

How does this apply to weight loss?

Now we know that while you are doing it — low intensity exercise burns primarily fat.

Higher intensity exercise actually burns more carb stores than fat.

But in every head to head comparison, high intensity exercise results in more fat loss than low intensity exercise - even though the more intense work may burn a lesser percentage of fat during the exercise session.

Burning glycogen results in a larger amount of fat lost than burning fat directly.

The body responds by “doing the opposite”…

Break down muscle to grow more muscle. Burn glycogen to lose more fat.

I designed Warp Speed Fat Loss training program to specifically take advantage of this ‘law’ of nature so that when your body “does the opposite” you’ll end up with faster and greater fat loss.

End of another elimination diet cycle

Been hard posting this last week as I've been WAAAAYYY busy with refitting my Islington Studios, giving a bunch of talks and preparing for my events this weekend with Craig Ballantyne of Turbulence Training Fame where we'll be presenting to the cream of the UK's fitness profession on how to build a great fitness business by overdelivering on service.

I've been very good though.

I've just started adding a little coffee back this week as I like the flavor (I don't use it for a kick) and I've done nearly 7 months on elimination so far this year with just a few breaks,

I had a little toast a few days ago too, though that bloated me up right away so that's off the menu again.

I'm giving myself until midnight on Sunday and started all over again, this time alongside a VERY strict training regimen to transform my body shape in 1 month.

I'll write in again tomorrow to explain how I'm doing it... you'll think I'm nuts : )
